Arsenal have offered Roma sporting director Monchi the role of technical director at the Gunners, according to reports in the UK.
The Spaniard was one of two candidates that the London club were considering, with Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars also in the mix.
However, it appears Monchi is Arsenal’s preferred candidate with club officials said to be expecting him to accept the offer on the table.
The Gunners would have to pay compensation to get their man. His current contract at Roma reportedly expires in 2020 so his appointment could cost as much as £1m.
If Monchi does arrive at the Emirates, he will once again link up with manager Unai Emery. The pair worked together for three years at Sevilla, winning three consecutive Europa League trophies in the process.
Arsenal fans will be hoping the Spanish pair can replicate their success in England if Monchi’s appointment is confirmed.
