Arsenal Dealt Transfer Blow In Race To Secure £18m Rated French Speedster

Lorient winger Alexis Claude-Maurice has revealed that he wants to join Borussia Monchengladbach this summer.

Both Arsenal and West Ham have reportedly had bids rejected for the Frenchman, but speaking yesterday about his future, the 21-year-old said:

“Now I feel like it’s time to leave, to join a club that is playing at a higher level. I want to join Monchengladbach. It is a club that relies on young people, there is a good structure, the team will play in the Europa League. This project pleases me and suits me.”

Whether Gladbach can afford Claude-Maurice, it remains to be seen. Lorient are said to be holding out for €20m (£18m) with interest in the player high.

Ligue One sides Lyon, Lille and Monaco are also said to be in the mix but it appears a move to Germany would be the pacey wide man’s preferred choice.

Reports at the weekend suggested Arsenal were lining up a third offer for Claude-Maurice, after reportedly having a €16m (£14m) bid turned down, but whether the Gunners will now end their interest in the player, now he has stated his intentions, we shall see.

The Ligue Two player scored 14 goals and contributed four assists in 36 appearances for Lorient last season.
