Arsenal Dealt Blow In Race For Striker

Arsenal look set to be made disappointed after the latest round of transfer news this morning. The news has indicated that their number 1 striking target is not for sale, at any price!

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made his name as one of the hottest strikers in the Bundesliga after netting an impressive 26 goals in all competitions last season. The pacey forward, who can also play on the left, is said to be Arsene Wenger’s number 1 attacking transfer target this summer.

The 26-year-old finished as joint 3rd top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, making him one of Borussia Dortmund’s most valuable players as without his goals the German side would have almost certainly endured an even more miserable season.

With Dortmund’s 7th place finish, and a flurry of influential members of the side set to leave, Aumbameyang may well look towards the exit door himself and chase ‘top end’ football once again. Arsenal’s interest, which is reportedly very strong, could be too much for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to resist. The Gunners are a side that are well and truly contenders for next season’s Premier League title and one could argue that the acquisition of the Gabon international may well push the odds further in their favour.

Arsenal have reportedly failed with a bid of around £28 million for Aubameyang and report in Germany are suggesting that the Gunners will test Dortmund’s resolve with an improved bid of over £30 million.

Speaking to German magazine Kicker, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc had this to say on the potential transfer of Aubameyang, a player he insisted is not for sale:

“We rely heavily on Aubameyang – that is no secret.”

“I’ve heard a lot about this (a transfer to Arsenal) but I can say very clearly that it is blocked for him. He is simply not for sale.” [Via Sky Sports]

The term ‘not for sale’ is thrown around a lot in football, whether a club can actually stand their ground and resist the lure of big money bids is always the key factor. As Arsenal’s search for a striker continues, it seems unlikely they will take Zorc’s latest statement too seriously.
