Arsenal Could Spring Draxler Surprise

According to Metro, Arsenal could spring another surprise for their supporters by waiting till deadline day to sign long term target Julian Draxler, after Schalke demanded his £37 million buyout clause be met for a potential transfer.

The Gunners have become shrewd buyers in the market, and have been secret about their transfer plans. A few seasons prior, Arsene Wenger would discuss transfer targets with the press, but the club’s strict transfer policy kept them from signing any big potential targets. However, the French manager has changed his policy of discussing transfers, which worked in his favor throughout the club’s signing of former Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil. Wenger has denied the possibility of any business in the current window, but situations can change for any club near the end of the window.

Draxler had been a Schalke youth player in his early days, before signing a professional contract with the club. After Eden Hazard sealed his move to Chelsea, Draxler has been touted as the next big sensation in Europe. Arsenal have been quick to sign young star players with a bright future, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott being prime examples.

Even though the £37 million price tag seems too much for one player, Arsenal have been leading the Barclays Premier League nearly the whole season, which will help provide money for new transfers. If the club do pull off the move before the deadline, it would seriously bolster the squad for the second half of the campaign.
