Arsenal Complete Striker Signing

Arsenal have completed the signing of 21-year-old Japanese striker Takuma Asano from J-League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The club have confirmed the transfer on their website, but have left the fee for the player undisclosed.

It is unknown whether or not Asano will feature in the first team next season for the Gunners, but the striker certainly has the credentials to maybe push into the first team. He has made five appearances for his country and is expected to be named in the Japan squad for the Rio Olympics later this summer.

“Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future,” said Wenger.

“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”

The forward will add to Arsenal’s attacking line which is an area of the squad that many believe Wenger is looking at bolstering. The north London club have failed to capture England striker Jamie Vardy, but reports claim that the club hope to complete the signings of Lacazette or Morata this summer.

The Japanese striker is clearly considered as one for the future by Arsenal, despite being expected to train with Arsenal’s first-team squad. However, it probably won’t be a signing hugely welcomed by Arsenal fans, who are continually crying out for a top striker to join the club.

Asano will become the third Japanese player to play under Wenger at Arsenal, following on from midfielders Junichi Inamoto and Ryo Miyaichi.
