Are Arsenal’s Suarez Hopes Completely Scuppered?

Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez approached the Liverpool hierarchy last summer and asked for a transfer to another club. Arsenal took notice of this, and what followed was a summer of media frenzy as the Gunners made the infamous and still talked about £40 million and £1 bid which should have technically allowed them to sign him, but it didn’t turn out so.

Since that water has passed under the bridge, Suarez performed a dramatic u-turn and committed his loyalty to the Reds by signing a new contract in December, but despite this there were fears that he could walk out of Anfield should Liverpool fail to achieve qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Metro however report that is not the case, as Suarez has himself given a statement rebuffing such suggestions.

When asked whether he would stay on even if Liverpool hypothetically failed to make it to the top 4, he replied saying, “I think so. I signed my new contract because I’m very happy here and I want to stay where I’m enjoying football and life. Playing in the Champions League isn’t dependent on that.”

Many related with Arsenal were expecting Arsene Wenger to go for a top striker, and maybe even return for Suarez in the summer. Their hopes are surely quashed now?
