The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has confirmed that the Uruguayan international wants to join up with his former Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo at Torino. Pablo Bentancur believes that on a personal level the 24-year-old would be keen on reuniting with Giampaolo but the Gunners could scupper the move by asking for too much money:

“Football has to be divided into two parts, the sporting and the economic areas. In sporting terms, Torreira is perfect for Torino and he’d reunite with Marco Giampaolo after their time at Sampdoria. At the same time, we must be realistic and admit Arsenal will have some very big demands, while Lucas’ salary is also a bit too high for Torino.”

Bentancur also confirmed that despite receiving many enquiries for Torreira, there has been no official bid made for the player yet. There were reports yesterday that Fiorentina had tabled a loan offer, with an option to buy the Uruguayan, but it seems that is not the case. A lot will depend on the finances of the deal. Torreira is on a sizeable wage and with Arsenal keen to recoup as much of the £26m they paid for the player as possible, it’s likely a deal will only be sorted out later in the transfer window.
