Arsenal To Face Tough Competition For Jackson Martinez

Porto star Jackson Martinez who has repeatedly expressed his fondness towards Arsenal, could end up playing for Spurs. Apparently, Tottenham have made the Colombian a priority for the next transfer window. Wenger has been interested in the 27 year old even since 2012 but never made a move mostly because of the player’s high price tag. According to talkSPORT, Martinez will more than likely move during January. Tottenham are not the only ones who are going to make it hard for Arsenal to actually bring in the striker who could be a great solution for the Gunners’ attacking line.

Even though under contract with Porto until 2017, this will be Martinez’s last season in Portugal. Leaving will not be a problem considering his incredible performance sheet. In 103 appearances for Porto, the 27 year old scored 103 times and helped his team with 5 assists. Valued at £25million, the Colombian international would make a really impressive attacking couple with either Giroud or Welbeck.

Unfortunately Arsenal might pass on making an offer for Martinez. Wenger’s biggest problem right now is making a strong defensive line. With many players injured and with little options, it is more probable that the Frenchman spends most of the transfer budgets on either one or two defenders or one or two defensive midfielders.

Rumors have it that City and United will join the race which means Martinez’s price will go through the roof. It is unfortunate that he did not decide earlier this year that it is time to move on from Porto. Wenger would have gladly signed him.
