Roma’s First Gervinho Bid Rejected By Wenger

Roma’s First Gervinho Bid Rejected By Wenger

Gervinho arrived at Arsenal with a strong reputation he made during his time at French outfit Lille. His qualities and reputation convinced the Gunners to part with £10 million for his services at the start of the 2011-2012 season. He was considered as one of the most fearsome attackers in the French league prior to his move to England.

Unfortunately, his career at Arsenal itself started on a sour note as he was sent off on his debut against Newcastle United in the season opener. Since then, his form has been up and down as he has struggled for consistency during his 2 years at the Emirates Stadium. He has at times been unplayable and a nuisance for opposition defenders. He has scored goals at regular intervals while providing assists for his team-mates. He has however also been a menace for his own team-mates as he has missed some glorious chances to score in key matches, while also being accused of being a bit too selfish at times.

The previous season too was similar for him. He started it off on a positive note, however, he was gradually reduced to being a substitute in the final months of the season. It looks like he is also set to start the next season on the bench. Therefore, there were rumors suggesting that he could possibly seek a move elsewhere in search of regular first-team football and a change in scenario. Metro reports that Serie A club, Roma, have been showing an interest in signing him up. Their manager Rudi Garcia was Gervinho’s manager at Lille and he is now keen to reunite with the 26-year old.

Roma launched their opening bid of £8 million which was rejected by Arsenal, who made it clear that they will listen to offers only if it was in the vicinity of £12 million, which is their valuation. The ball is in Roma’s court now. Do we see an improved bid on its way?
