Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Thomas Partey will have a scan on his ankle after picking up an injury in the friendly defeat to Chelsea yesterday.
The Ghanaian sustained the issue in a collision with Hakim Ziyech just before half time and Arteta seemed concerned when asked about the midfielder’s condition following the match at the Emirates:
“I just had a talk with the doctor. He’ll have a scan tomorrow. At the moment it’s not looking good because he was in pain and he could not continue which for Thomas is pretty unusual.”
Some fans on Twitter are worried that Partey could miss a number of weeks with an ankle sprain:

It’s probably best not to jump to any conclusions regarding how long the 28-year-old will be out for but it does highlight once again the Gunners’ lack of options in midfield.
They may have signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht over the summer but the London club will be reluctant to put too much pressure on a relatively inexperienced player.
The likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny may have to be relied upon in the opening league match against Brentford, and that won’t fill supporters with a lot of confidence.
