Arsenal have submitted their first offer for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to reports in the French media.
The Gunners are believed to have tabled a bid in the region of €20m (£17.2m) for the Norwegian international but the Blades are demanding around €30m (£25.8m).
Supporters on Twitter don’t believe Berge is worth the amount being asked for, with many feeling the London club should not be overpaying for someone who has been relegated this season:
30 mil is way too much

Cherry picking relegation fodder is actually embarrassing

Not good enough

No way this club buys berge for 30m! If not in the region of 20-25 then we keep it moving.

Couldn't give a toss about any sell-on percentage. That's their problem, not ours. We shouldn't be paying over the top just to cover their costs. It's a fair offer; take it or leave it, I say.

20 or nothing. Bissouma is higher on the list I hope.

PASS. EASY PASS.

Why are we after this guy. A part from being tall what else does he have the skills to join a club of Arsenal's standards
— Fred (@mkuyule) May 17, 2021
Than to sign him for that amount we rather bring back Aaron Ramsey back to arsenal

Man like bissouma said he only wants arsenal and the club are wasting time on this ??♂️

There are a few things that need to be pointed out here. Berge has been injured for the majority of the season so he can’t be blamed for how United’s season has turned out.
In addition, the Blades paid £23m for the 23-year-old last January so they are not willing to sell him at a loss, especially given the fact they reportedly owe 10% to 20% to his former club Genk.
It means the French press are probably right when they say the Yorkshire club will be looking for a much higher fee than Arsenal’s opening offer.
