Arsenal are “interested” in signing AZ captain Teun Koopmeiners, according to AZFanpage.nl. The website claims “reliable sources” have told them that the Gunners are pursuing the 22-year-old.
The Dutchman is generally a holding midfielder by trade, but he has been extremely prolific in front of goal over the course of this season, having scored 16 in all competitions for AZ.
Head coach Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on signing a midfielder this summer, with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey having been heavily linked in recent months, but Koopmeiners could well be seen as a cheaper option.
The Netherlands Under 21 international is also, undoubtedly, more of a goal threat than the Atletico star and can also play as a centre-half when required.
Whether the Gunners will actually make a formal bid for Koopmeiners in the coming weeks, we shall have to wait and see, but it is certainly one to keep an eye on.
