Arsenal and Chelsea are both pursuing Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Gunners were originally linked with a bid for the 20-year-old last summer, and it appears the London club retain an interest in the centre-half.

Zagadou is left-footed, and would certainly offer manager Mikel Arteta greater balance which is required to implement the Spaniard’s style of play.

David Ornstein says that Arsenal are focused on signing a left-sided centre-back but that position is likely to be taken up by Pablo Mari if he signs on a permanent basis from Flamengo.

There is nothing stopping the Gunners going after Zagadou as well, although that may depend on whether the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos are sold this summer. Both players have one year remaining on their current deals.

The cost of signing Zagadou could also be problematic. Although the Frenchman started off the season on the bench, he has been a regular in Lucien Favre’s side since the beginning of December.
