Arsenal Handed Major Boost As Sporting Director Confirms Target’s £53m Price Tag Will Be Slashed

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has confirmed that the club may have to consider selling Dayot Upamecano for below his €60m (£53m) release clause.

The Frenchman is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract and, combined with the effects of the ongoing health crisis, Krosche says that the centre-back’s value will have dropped:

“At least this summer such sums are unlikely, you have to honestly say so. This is a far-reaching decision for a player, he (Upamecano) should take time for that.”

“He has to be clear about exactly what he is going to do, how he sees his future. Maybe that has changed a bit as a result of the new situation.”

The news will come as a big boost to Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham who are said to be interested in the 21-year-old. The Gunners are unlikely to have significant transfer funds to dip into if they miss out on the Champions League and any reductions in price for Upamecano will make him more affordable.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is said to be actively looking for another centre-half in the summer, with the likes of Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez, Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng and Schalke’s Malik Thiaw having been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
