Wenger Eyes Bayern Munich Youngster

David Alaba has been impressive this season personally, and is still fresh from his team Bayern Munich’s collective exploits as they romped through Germany and Europe this season, winning the unprecedented treble of German Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and the German league cup. He has been vital in keeping numerous clean sheets at the back and in the process, conceding a record least number of goals this season.

The 20-year old however has been deployed in the left-back role all season. That is not his natural position as he is primarily a typical central midfielder, but has been forced to play as a full-back by outgoing coach Jupp Henyckes. Though this change has worked wonders for the team as it has brought them huge amounts of success, it has not been the same for the Austrian personally.

Metro believe that being constantly played out-of-position has apparently upset Alaba, who hopes to play in his favored central midfield position next season. He is set to meet the Munich hierarchy and discuss the same in the coming weeks.

Wenger has been monitoring this situation very closely. He has been impressed with Alaba and is hopeful of taking advantage of the current situation and manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium over the summer. He is also ready to promise Alaba his favored central midfield role as a bait. Wenger is in search of a suitable midfielder who can challenge current captain Mikel Arteta for his place in the starting 11, and also the possible announcement of Alaba’s capture will signal Arsenal’s intentions in the transfer window and in the upcoming campaign. They have already been linked to big names like Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas in recent weeks which point at the Gunners’ aspirations for next season.

Though it seems practically impossible for Alaba to leave the reigning European champions, who are set to be taken over by Pep Guardiola, what will be interesting to see is to where does he play next season. Do Arsenal stand even the slightest chance of pulling off this major coup?
