Liverpool vs Arsenal Match Preview and Predictions

Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday for their third game of the new Premier League campaign. Liverpool will be hoping for a third successive home win after seeing off Crystal Palace and Hoffenheim in the last week, Arsenal on the other hand arrive in Merseyside off the back of their 1-0 defeat away to Stoke City.

Liverpool vs Arsenal always promises to provide a fierce clash with plenty of goals. Games between these two clubs in the Premier League have produced 17 goals in the 90th minute or later; more than any other fixture. The Reds will once again be without main man Philippe Coutinho whose transfer saga continues to rumble on, and Adama Lallana who is injured – another key blow going forward for Klopp. At the back, Nathaniel Clyne is out with injury, but Liverpool could introduce Mamadou Sakho back into the team with him nearing full fitness.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Alexis Sanchez and Laurent Koscielny are ready to return for the Gunners. Fans will be eagerly anticipating the return of the duo, especially the Chilean following his contract situation.

Liverpool won both of their Premier League meetings with Arsenal last season, but they haven’t won three in a row for nearly 10 years. Arsenal won the fewest points in matches between the top six sides last season (9) and lost half of their 10 matches against fellow top six opposition.

The Gunners don’t like winning away from home against top six sides, they last won a Premier League away game against one back in January 2015 (2-0 at Man City) – they’ve since lost seven and drawn five of their matches on the road against these clubs. Liverpool on the other hand won 20 points from 10 Premier League matches against the rest of the top six in 2016-17; more than any other side.

Sadio Mane looks to be Liverpool’s key man at the moment, he has had a hand in five goals in his five previous Premier League starts against Arsenal (three goals, two assists). Roberto Firmino is also a danger for the Gunners, the Brazilian has scored three goals in four Premier League games against Arsenal.
