Wright Singles Out “Fantastic” Arsenal Star For Praise After United Display

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes goalkeeper Bernd Leno deserves to be praised for his performances in recent games.

The German pulled off a stunning save in the North London derby and followed that up with another excellent display in the 2-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend. Wright says Leno made two crucial interventions on Sunday:

“He made some great saves against Spurs last week. The save he made – if it was David De Gea, everybody would have went crazy.”

“He made two great saves again [on Sunday]. Even though Lukaku missed some chances, our goalkeeper was fantastic.”

Leno has certainly proven he is a very good shot-stopper his season, but his decision making, particularly against United, was top drawer.

The 27-year-old managed to stay up long enough and save a shot from Romelu Lukaku when the Belgian went around the keeper. He also stopped United’s number nine when clean through on goal by coming off his line to clear the ball.

Since taking the gloves off Petr Cech in September, Leno has grown into the role, and fans will be hoping he continues his good form for the rest of the campaign.
