Wright Highlights Costly Mistake That Cost Arsenal £60m Windfall

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the Gunners missed out on £60m by letting Aaron Ramsey run down his contract.

The Welshman will join Juventus on a free transfer at the start of next month following the end of his contract at the London club.

Wright thinks the failure to sell Ramsey earlier has proven to be a huge mistake and has a cost the Gunners a substantial financial windfall:

“As much as Arsenal have to take a massive amount of blame for that, there was a stage where they must have known he was not going to sign.”

“So we are talking about a £60million player that should have been a case of ‘OK, we will have to sell you now’ and not let it get to a stage where it has got to.”

Arsenal Director of Football Raul Sanllehi and Chief Executive Vinai Venkatesham have vowed that players will be sold if they reach the final two years of their contract in future.

Whether that actually happens, we shall have to wait and see, but they will certainly be keen to avoid another situation like Ramsey which has cost the club a significant amount of money.

Arsenal could certainly do with the £60m this summer in order to reinforce the London club’s transfer kitty.
