Wright Believes Arsenal Have Already Found Aubameyang’s Successor As Arsenal Captain

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is backing left-back Kieran Tierney to be a future club captain, after witnessing an incident in the draw against Leeds on Sunday.

The 23-year-old was incensed with Ezgjan Alioski for what he felt was playacting that led to teammate Nicolas Pepe being sent off for a headbutt in the 0-0 draw, and Wright believes that attitude is a sign of a leader:

“Kieran Tierney in the way he reacted at the end of that game, he’s a future captain for our club. Yes we know what Pepe did was silly and he will very much regret that but Tierney could not deal with the fact that a professional done that to another professional player, dived.”

“Seeing somebody else talking to him, that really riled Kieran Tierney up, he’s not having that. You look at Tierney, it’s the attitude and the mentality that Arsenal need right now, not enough around him maybe, in his eyes, have got that. That’s why he went and approached Alioski to say to him you’re out of order.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only signed a new three-year contract in the summer so it will likely be a fair while before there will be a change in the captaincy but Tierney does appear to have made a strong case for himself.

The Scottish international never puts in less than 100% effort and has already shown he will stand up for his teammates. In three years time, he will be nearing the peak of his career in his mid-twenties as well so Wright is certainly right to put him forward as a candidate.
