Arsenal’s quick move on Xhaka got everyone excited about the summer transfer window. They seem to have lost momentum though, as none of the players linked to a move to Emirates appear to be getting closer to the Gunners. The bad news is that even with Giroud in decent form, Wenger still needs an alternative for the attack, an alternative that simply refuses to stand out of the crowd. Seeing the second transfer made by Arsenal’s boss, Gooners might not be in for such a hot summer after all. Even though Takuma Asano is a good player, he is not on the same level as let’s say Higuain or some of the other striker linked to the Gunners. One explanation for Arsenal’s lack of activity might be that Wenger is planning on building a false 9 formation, a formation similar to what Germany has with Muller or similar to what Barcelona had before Suarez. There were rumors that Sanchez will be moved up front meaning that one of the flanks will be vacant or opened for transfers.

With that in mind, rumors linking Arsenal to players like Arda Turan or Julian Draxler could actually make sense. Both can play and feel very comfortable as left-wingers, a position which was previously covered by the Chilean forward. Would that boost the attack though?

Currently, according to Squawka, Draxler is valued at €60million which is a lot regardless of how good he is. Arda Turan would go for half that amount and would bring a lot to the table even if he is 29. The German midfielder who can also play as a No.10 is 22, has a decent playing relationship with Ozil and can be integrated in many formations in which he can even play up front. The Turkish international on the other hand is a lot more determined and aggressive which would be a plus for Arsenal given the roughness of the Premier League. Either of the two would make a great acquisition for the Gunners who need to do something to get that edge needed to win the Premier League. Waiting on Giroud to give the North Londoners that edge or improvising with Sanchez might still not be good enough so bring Draxler or Turan but focus on signing a star quality No.9 as well.
