Would Fabregas be betraying Arsenal?

Spanish star Cesc Fabregas has continued to indicate that he does not want to leave Barcelona for Manchester United. Despite the midfielder’s stance, the Red Devils are still making a serious push for Fabregas. According to sources, the club made a £25 million offer to bring him back to the Premier League. The club is looking to bring him in for his creativity and to replace the once-again retired Paul Scholes.

If he were to change his mind and transfer to Old Trafford, would he be betraying Arsenal? A place he played at for nine seasons and served as captain for four of them. The answer is no.

This wouldn’t be the first time United have taken a marquee star away from Arsenal. Just last year Robin van Persie, who played for the Gunners for years and served as captain, left the club to play for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Some fans tend to forget that football is a business and sometimes business decisions outweigh a player’s love for a certain club or location. And in Fabregas’ case, he would definitely be disappointing people at Arsenal or Barcelona if he were to leave. But he would be earning some more cash in the process and getting a fresh start at Old Trafford. It was very noticeable that he had a hard time fitting in at Barcelona last season.

Despite the criticism, the move back to the Premier League for the midfielder does make sense and United know it, especially as their attack struggled last weekend in a 1-0 defeat to Singha All Stars.
New manager David Moyes has stated repeatedly that he wants to make a big transfer this summer, even if that means breaking tradition. “I will not name anybody, but certainly we are always looking at the best players. I think we are trying to strengthen in a couple of areas. We are short in midfield.” Moyes said.

If Arsenal really disagreed with this potential move, there is a clause in Fabregas contract that allows the club to resign the midfielder before United can, but it looks like they will pass up on this opportunity, so can’t complain if he moves to Old Trafford.
