Wilshere Targeting Arsenal And England Armbands

Jack Wilshere has come to the fore in the last few seasons at Arsenal. Following the departure of big names like Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie, Wilshere has risen to prominence off late and has already become the heart and soul of the club at such a tender age. It is almost certain that he will be the future captain of the club in the next few years, and that he will be next in line to inherit the armband after Thomas Vermaelen and current vice-captain Mikel Arteta.

Following his horror injury suffered in Arsenal’s pre-season friendlies at the start of the 2011-12 season, he was forced to sit out the entire campaign and only returned mid-way of the recently concluded season. He has however made a recovery from his injury and is settled back into the team now.

He has also established himself as an important figure in the England national team’s midfield and looks ready to take the mantle over from the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in the coming years. Wilshere is viewed as the leader of the young English group of players and he now has the onus on him to lead the nation to glory in the coming years. His man of the match performance for England in the friendly against Brazil last year was testament to the qualities and also the expectations which rest on his young shoulders.

Wilshere is loving the challenge he is facing every day playing for Arsenal and England, and it was reported by Sky Sports recently that he wishes to one day become the captain of his club and country. He said, “I want to captain Arsenal and I want to captain England. That definitely appeals to me. It’s my ultimate dream. People say players are no longer bothered about wearing the England shirt.”

“But for me it’s the pinnacle of my job because club rivalries go out of the window and the entire nation comes together behind you – it’s the best feeling.”
