Wilshere Could Return For Brazil

Jack Wilshere hopes this summer period will enable him to take part in the England setup without any injury troubles, as his planned minor ankle surgery aims to provide the Arsenal midfielder with a full uninterrupted season next term.

Wilshere has had terrible luck with injuries, and missed the entire last season due to an initial stress fracture ankle injury which reoccured, leading him to miss the full season. Fans were hoping to see the midfielder gradually recover this season, and that has been the case with limited Premier League appearances, 25 in number.

Next season could be vital for the former Arsenal youth academy player, as the FIFA World Cup in Brazil will be round the corner at the end of next season. Fans expect big things from Wilshere and his midfield partner Aaron Ramsey, who both emerged into the senior squad around the same time. Being a unique left footed midfielder, Wilshere will add a variety to the England setup, never-mind at Arsenal, with Gareth Barry being defensive in his role in the national side.

England boss, Roy Hodgson, will be hoping Wilshere completes an entire season without injury next term, which will boost his chances of making it into the Three-Lions setup. The 21-year old has made just 7 appearances for his country so far, and missed the latest games against San Marino and Montenegro played in March due to the same injury.

There is no doubt about Wilshere’s talent on the ball, but there will be pressure on the shoulders of Roy Hodgson to field an experienced strong squad capable of giving the trophy a good go. Frank Lampard had recently spoken about the growing frustration in the players’ minds about the fact that they have achieved so much domestically, but have nothing to show for it on the big national stage.

According to the Metro, Wilshere is confident about appearing for England next year, and said, “I don’t want to miss England games, that’s the pinnacle in any player’s career so you want to be involved in every game you can. “

However, Wilshere is keeping immediate targets in focus so as to keep in step with the current squad. He went on to say, “But we have a friendly against Scotland as well [in August] and that will be a big one.”

“It is an important year for qualifiers next season, so hopefully I can get myself fit and get involved in that.”
