Wilshere Adamant Arsenal Have “Real Chance” Of Top Four Finish Despite Liverpool Humbling

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere claims the Gunners can still make the top four this season, even though they were on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.

While Wilshere says the top three positions have already been sewn up by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, he feels no one is staking a claim for the final Champions League spot:

“Without stating the obvious it goes down to the big three and that’s what gives Arsenal a real chance for top four because nobody is making a real run for it at the moment.”

Wilshere does make a good point. West Ham currently occupy fourth, three points ahead of Arsenal, but they lost to Wolves at the weekend. Other contenders, such as Tottenham and Manchester United have also been well off the pace so far this campaign.

However, much will depend on the Gunners’ own form. They put a great run together before the loss on Saturday, and they will need a similar string of results over the festive period in order to keep themselves in contention.
