Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has expressed his worry after the Gunners lost to Bournemouth at the weekend.
The Gunners lost 2-0 to Bournemouth at the weekend in what was a blow to their title challenge against Manchester City and Liverpool this season.
Arne Slot’s side currently remains top of the Premier League after a 2-1 win over Chelsea whereas Arsenal now sit four points behind them in third place.
Mikel Arteta’s side now need to bounce back as they host league leaders Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium this weekend in what could be a crucial league title clash.
Former Gunner William Gallas says that they can’t afford to drop points against ‘small teams’ such as Bournemouth.
He told Prime Casino: “The problem with Arsenal is always the same and it looks like it won’t change. If they play against big teams, every player will be 100%. If they play against small teams, some players are not 100%.
“If you want to win the title, you’ve got to beat the small teams in the league home and away. If you draw, it’s the same feeling as a loss because you know how good Manchester City are. Arsenal need to understand that they can’t drop points like this if they want to be champions this season.”
Arsenal defence lacks ‘shutout’ ability of Liverpool
So far this season, Liverpool have had the best defensive record in the Premier League conceding just three goals in eight matches. Whereas Arsenal have conceded eight in eight which makes them the third-best defence in the league.
However, if Arsenal want to keep pace with the Reds, they will need to sure up their defence which everyone knows can be the best in the league.
Last season, Mikel Arteta’s side conceded 29 goals in 38 games which is an average of 0.76 goals conceded per game. This season they have averaged one goal conceded every game, a number that may have to come down if they are to win the league this season.
