Will Wenger Reinvent Himself With A Summer Spending Spree If He Stays?

With reports still swirling around considering the future of Arsenal manager, with many suggesting that the board are set to give the Frenchman a chance to reinvent himself over the next season or two.

It’s still hugely unclear how this would go down with The Emirates fan base. Those prominent on social media, the likes of Arsenal Fan TV, make more noise than any and are rather loudly calling for an end to the Wenger era, whereas according to journalists inside The Emirates, there is little angst towards the manager from the majority of fans.

One thing is for certain, no one decision made by the former Monaco manager will please everyone, but they’ll have to accept it and look for any possible positives in the situation.

The Telegraph have suggested that, in staying on a year, Wenger will reinvent himself and go all out for one final push towards silverware in order to walk out of the club where he has held the reins for over two decades.

One key element of that reinvention would be his approach to spending with a huge summer overhaul being mooted as one approach to getting the Gunners back to where many feel they belong.

With the sagas surrounding both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil continuing to rumble on, it appears that, within the corridors of power of the club at least, new deals are becoming less of an absolute priority, with a monumental overhaul an option this summer.

The club have been linked with another move for Alexander Lacazette, as well as a swoop for Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, this summer as Wenger looks to rejuvenate his squad. The current Arsenal crop have been criticised from all angles for hiding behind they manager, with club legend Thierry Henry questioning whether or not the shirt was too heavy for them.

It could well be that Wenger, alongside a possible sporting director, looks to shake up his team over the summer, adding players who have the mental aptitude to recover, not only from defeats but events within a game. This was a key failing of his current players in the 10-2 aggregate defeat against Bayern Munich, where the Gunners capitulated upon losing their captain Laurent Koscielny on both occasions.

A big spending overhaul is not something anyone would have associated with or expected from Wenger, however, it seems now the best option to make his staying longer work.
