Will Lukas Podolski Resist Pull Of Borussia Dortmund?

The 27-year-old Lukas Podolski has spent his entire playing career in Germany, but transitioned to English football with Arsenal last summer. The forward has had a mixed debut season with the Gunners, and had to endure the wrath of the German general manager citing his progress as unsatisfactory even though he scored 16 goals in all competitions.

Beaten Champions League finalist, Borussia Dortmund have already lost Mario Gotze to treble winner Bayern Munich, and even star striker Robert Lewandowski is linked with a move to the Allianz Arena. According to Metro, Dortmund have identified Podolski as their ideal target if Lewandowski does indeed depart the Westfalenstadion.

The report suggests that Jurgen Klopp is set to use funds from the sale of Gotze to engineer a move for Podolski, who has more than 100 national caps to his name. But can the runners-up in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League convince Podolski that his future lies away from the Emirates?

The Gunners have endured a barren trophy run in recent years, with Wenger’s side not tasting success since 2005’s FA Cup win. They finished 16 points behind champions Manchester United this season and only secured their passage to Europe’s elite on the final day of the season.

They suffered a humiliation in the domestic cups, losing to lower division sides in the FA Cup as well as the Carling Cup. They also failed to make it past the last 16 stage of the Champions League, going down to eventual winners Bayern Munich.

Dortmund, on the other hand, are looking to win their third Bundesliga title in four years’ with the capture of the German player. Even though Dortmund failed to win a trophy this season, they were runners-up domestically and continentally behind all-conquering Bayern Munich.

With Arsenal hovering near fourth spot, and not likely to lay an assault on the Premier League next season, Dortmund believe they can tempt Podolski to help them wrestle away the Bundesliga from Bayern Munich next season. Do you think the German powerhouses will successfully tempt Podolski to join them next season?
