Will Arsenal Shell Out Big For A New Goalkeeper?

The Gunners have so far coughed up a big 0 of their financial muscle in the transfer market by agreeing a deal for 20-year-old Yaya Sanogo on a free. Wenger has been fiercely criticized for his lack of transfer activity this summer, but has promised an arrival of new talent in the coming days.

His rationale being the transfer window is like a poker game, with clubs keeping their prized assets close to their chest for as long as possible before making a decision at the very end. With less than two weeks to go for the window to slam shut, one can expect a considerable amount of shuffling of players in the next few days.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their forward-line as well as their defence before the window closes. While Wenger will have to seek alternative replacements after confirming that the Suarez deal is dead, there is positive news for Arsenal in their hunt for a new goalkeeper.

The north London side have been linked with a host of goalkeepers like Victor Valdes, Julio Cesar amongst others but have been unable to crack a deal for any of them. However, in what could be a big boost to their transfer activity, Metro is reporting that the Gunners are on high alert after Valencia admitted that their goalkeeper Guaita could leave the Mestalla.

The 26-year-old is likely to depart Valencia this summer after being dropped in recent weeks and club President Amadeo Salva has admitted that the goalie can leave for the right price.

He said, “Guaita is a world class keeper and we have no need to sell, but we would study the price of any offers. He is not happy with being a substitute sometimes, and his agents have reported that he could find a way out. This does not sit well with the board – if you do not play every week, you have to make sure you keep respecting Valencia.”

The report suggests that the 26-year-old has a staggering buy-out clause of £25 million in order to keep away potential suitors. However, with Valencia keen on a deal, Arsenal are still in with a shout of getting their man at a lesser fee.

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal have tabled a £6 million bid for Guaita which has been immediately laughed off by Valencia. The Gunners are expected to increase their offer up to £15 million in the coming weeks.
