Will Arsenal Regret Sending Wilshere On Loan?

Unfortunately Wilshere’s departure might not be 100% covered. Apparently, Arsenal could be in search of a new midfielder this winter if things don’t go according to plan. Wenger allowed the England international to join Bournemouth knowing that he has Elneny, Xhaka, Cazorla, Coquelin and Ramsey to cover the whole midfield. We can exclude Ozil as he is taking on a more attacking role at the Emirates. Despite a strong list of names more than capable of holding their own against any adversary, the Gunners are rumored to have shown interest in two possible targets which might just be available this winter. The issue which started all this speculation was Ramsey’s delayed return to the pitch. The Welshman who has had a long summer, is going to return later than expected and might even miss a couple of more games in the weeks to come. The biggest concern is that the 25-year-old will not be able to shake off his muscular problems. Since 2013 he has spent almost 9 months recovering from different issues regarding his thigh or hamstring which apparently have not healed properly since then.

While Xhaka and all the others mentioned above are capable of filling in the gap left by Ramsey in terms of formation, they haven’t got the same impact as the Welshman does on Arsenal’s games. He is a very important player for the club and his absence is always a concern. You can have Cazorla fill in but he lacks stature and sometimes strength. He was also injured most of last season and might just be coming into his last year of contract. Right now he is Arsenal’s player until 2017 and could easily be parting ways with the Londoners. With that in mind, Wenger will want to make sure he has the midfield covered. According to Squawka, there are 2 options one of which is more plausible than the other. Both should be the kind of business you can do during the winter period so it is possible we might see a new midfielder at the Emirates.

The first target is Yaya Toure. The Ivorian was not included in Guardiola’s Champions League squad and will be leaving City after deciding there is no chance of patching things up with the Spaniard. The problem is that, regardless of his current situation, City’s captain would prefer not to join a Citizens’ rival thus saying pass to any offers coming from Arsenal, United or Chelsea. One can hope though as there were stranger things happening in football this summer.

The second target was on Wenger’s list a year back. PSG’s Adrien Rabiot is again in the Frenchman’s mind especially now that everyone got to see him play more. He has a similar profile to Ramsey but is closer in terms of position to Xhaka. He has loads of talent and is quite the promising player. Hopefully a move will be made on this guy as he can easily grow into a very stable box-to-box midfielder.
