Will Arsenal Give Up On Draxler?

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could be set to lose the chase to sign Schalke 04 striker Julian Draxler, who has been consistent in his run of games for the club, as the German international has his sights set on sealing a place in the national squad traveling to Brazil in June 2014.

Arsenal have been rewarded for their consistent start to the season, and sit on top of the Barclays Premier League table with a four-point lead over Liverpool and Chelsea, extending to as much as five-points over fifth place Manchester United. The key to their success has been the squad’s knack of finding the back of the net more often than the last few seasons. The squad has fought in each game as a unit, and ensured that the performance remains at the highest level. Even though Arsenal’s style of play is admired around the world for the slick passing and progressive possession play, the last few seasons have seen them struggle to find the finishing touches to excellently crafted plays by the midfielders. When Wenger decided to buy Olivier Giroud from Montpellier, the Gunners faithful were very wary about this decision as the French striker was used to playing in his home league which is not as physically demanding in nature as the Premier League. Giroud had a decent season last year. However, Giroud has been a revelation this season, right from his goalscoring prowess to his off the ball work, the Frenchman has been one of the club’s most consistent starters, and one very vital reason for Arsenal’s current league position.

As we enter midseason, Giroud is tiring a bit physically but is still delivering on the goalscoring front which is excellent as he is the only recognized senior striker in the squad. Draxler’s decision to continue at Schalke means the club will have to look elsewhere to assist Giroud, as the winter period could make or break their title charge.

Draxler said, “Every summer I have to look what is the best for me and I will do that in the summer again. We will see what happens.”

“I have always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal is of course one of them. I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the team and they always have good words and they tell me nice things.”
