“Why Not?” Kevin Campbell Claims Arsenal Should Challenge Chelsea, United And Liverpool For English Wonderkid

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes the Gunners should be in the market for players like Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The 18-year-old is reportedly being pursued by the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, but when asked if Arsenal have a chance of signing the England international, Campbell replied:

“Why not? This young man was at Birmingham, just up the M6. Nobody took the chance and he had to go to Dortmund. If we have to pay the money, and if we want somebody to be in there [midfield] for years to come, we’ve got to pay the money.”

Campbell is probably being a bit optimistic about the Gunners’ chances of snapping up Bellingham. While the Emirates is seemingly a good place to develop as a young player, the London club are very much down the pecking order when it comes to the midfielder’s next destination.

Arsenal have no European football at the moment, while Dortmund are in the Champions League, and the Bundesliga side would probably demand a fee in excess of the transfer record set by Nicolas Pepe.

Both of those factors mean a transfer to the Gunners is a long way off from being a possibility at the moment.
