‘Why Is He Even On The Shortlist?’ ‘Seriously? Just No’ Fans Worried About Report Linking Arsenal With Former Everton Boss

Arsenal have added former Everton manager Roberto Martinez to their shortlist of candidates, according to the Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The current Belgium head coach is not believed to be favourite for the job, but the Spaniard’s name has been included, along with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Mauricio Pochettino, Patrick Vieira and Carlo Ancelotti.

Supporters on Twitter are not happy that Martinez has entered the running for the position:

Although Martinez has had some success with Belgium, getting them to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, he is in charge of a group of world-class players.

His last job at club level ended under a cloud at Everton in 2016, with the Toffees finishing 12th in the Premier League table. He wouldn’t be a popular choice, considering the other names being mentioned.

The Gunners will be conducting interviews over the coming days, with the aim to make a swift decision on the club’s next manager, but there is an emphasis on finding the right man, and they will not be rushed into an appointment.
