Who Should Challenge Coquelin For A Spot In Wenger’s Starting Eleven?

All eyes are on Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners looking to finally complete a lot that is expected to do some serious damage next season. Even though Wenger suggested the club will not make any major transfers, it is very likely to see at least one or two important players brought to London.

Despite the fact that Coquelin was probably the revelation of the season for Arsenal, he will still need strong competition to keep him on his toes and also cover for him in case of injury or fatigue. The Gunners plan on claiming the Premier League trophy and it is very hard to believe that the young midfielder will remain the only DM to handle the pressure throughout the season. Flamini and Arteta could take Coquelin’s place but what happens if help is needed during a decisive match. Hopefully one of the two can show the ability to just go out on the pitch and provide their teammates the confidence they need to hold on to a result or to put pressure on adversaries. But who are the players able to come to Emirates and be just as good as Coquelin?

The most recent DM linked to Arsenal is Victor Wanyama who is well acquainted to the rigors of Premier League football and has grown a lot since leaving Celtic for Southampton. He is athletic, young and very defense oriented. According to TeamTalk he is quite eager to sign with Arsenal.

Another great option for Wenger could come from Portugal where 23 year old William Carvalho made a great impression. He could be looking to signing with a bigger club and Arsenal might be the perfect destination as we suggested a while back.

Schneiderlin is probably the player linked the most to Arsenal in the past year and a half. The Frenchman has yet to decide what his future holds.

These are 3 suggestions that look plausible at this moment and that would be worth spending some extra cash on. What are your suggestions for challenging Coquelin next season?
