Arsenal are expected to promote midfielder Catalin Cirjan to the club’s Under 23s after just one season playing for the Under 18s, according to Arsenal Youth.
The former Romanian Under 16 international only joined from Viitorul Domnesti in July last year on a free transfer but he has made a good impression among the coaches at London Colney.
So who is Cirjan and should Gunners fans be getting excited about the 17-year-old considering his rapid rise in the club’s youth team?
Well, there is no doubt he has the technical ability to make it at senior level. He has impressed when playing in the middle of the park for the Under 18s this campaign, playing mostly as a deep-lying playmaker.
Just before the lockdown, Cijan was utilised further forward and actually scored three goals in his last two games in the Under 18 Premier League, playing as a number ten.
The teenager played 19 games in total this campaign, both in the league and the FA Youth Cup, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He will likely need to develop physically in order to play first-team football but the Under 23s will certainly toughen him up if and when he is given the opportunity by manager Steve Bould.
