Arsenal left Highbury Stadium for the Emirates back on Sunday May 7th 2006. The last Premier League game played at the Gunners’ old stadium was a 4-2 win against Wigan Athletic.
Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal team in 2006 were the last to play their home games at Highbury Stadium. The Gunners finished fourth in the Premier League that season with Liverpool, Chelsea and champions Manchester United ahead of them.
It was a landmark season for the club as in the summer of 2006, the Gunners moved to the Emirates Stadium which holds well over 20,000 more fans than Highbury which has helped the club level the financial playing field with the other top clubs once the stadium debt was paid off.
However the memories will forever be held at Arsenal’s former home. Their last game came in May 2006 against Wigan, and this is where that iconic starting XI are now.
