What To Expect From Arsenal’s Summer Transfers?

It`s been a long and somewhat frustrating summer for Arsenal fans who went from being ecstatic to being mad and then happy. Throughout a season there are ups and downs but you cannot fail to notice Arsenal’s unique way of playing and love the drama that comes with not being focused 100% on trophies but also on things like quality and continuity.

This summer is sort of a special one as Wenger finally spent big on more than one player. Arsenal spent £35million on their latest signing. With the £15million spent on La Coruna’s Lucas Perez, the £40million spent on Xhahka and the combined £5million spent on Takuma Asano and Rob Holding, the Gunners have reached a total of £95million in just one summer. The only way Arsenal got close to these numbers is if you count the entire year in which Sanchez was brought in with Chambers, Welbeck, Debuchy, Paulista and Ospina. But again, that’s a whole year as the Brazilian defender was signed in January.

Looking at the list of players Wenger signed, it is safe to say that we will be seeing 4 of them play on a regular basis. Unfortunately Takuma Asano will not be featured in any of this season’s games. The others though have a very big chance of actually becoming team regulars. Xhaka seems to have already found a place next to El Neny or Coquelin so we can expect to see him starting in the less important domestic competitions as well as the Champions League. The midfielder seems to adapt more and more to Wenger’s style and might even be the key to a successful season if he stays away from injury. He showed some nervousness during his first game but had the right attitude in the other matches he played.

Lucas Perez is the lesser known player on the list as he just caught the eye of Wenger’s scouts. The 27-year-old striker looks to have reached his career goal and maybe with the right help, he could maintain and improve his efficiency. He is different than Giroud who despite scoring some goals, fell short of keeping up with the likes of Sergio Aguero or Harry Kane.

Rob Holding is possibly the best adapted member on the list. He performed extremely well given the circumstances and is expected to grow into an excellent partner for the latest transfer, Shkodran Mustafi who was just announced. While Mertesacker and Koscielny are excellent, they will be over 31 in 2017  when a new set of center-backs is expected to take ownership of the defense.

Valencia’s Mustafi is the most expected on this list as the German international’s move looked key to a good season start. While the first 3 games were OK to some extent, they showed massive gaps in a defense hurt by injury. With Mertesacker expected to return in several months and with Holding’s lack of experience, Mustafi is the man for the job. He is also the future according to the club’s official site: “We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”
