Wenger: We Don’t Need Madrid Star

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal’s intentions of focusing their transfer attempts to find defensive minded players as he also denied any suggestions of the club being linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco, according to the Standard.

Arsenal have missed out on several opportunities to win domestic silverware over the past few seasons, and that has been due to the lack of depth in several positions in the starting eleven. While the goalkeeping berth remained an issue for the club to assess, the right back spot became vacant after the departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City and the unlucky injuries sustained by his replacement Mathieu Debuchy. Calum Chambers aside, Wenger has been struggling to strengthen the defensive side of the team in general. The defensive core of the team is compromised, and it begins from the defensive midfield area.

Isco began his career at the Valencia youth academy in 2006, before signing up professionally for the B team. After some splendid performances in the side, he was given the chance to play for the senior team, but the player was keen on a move to Malaga. Under Manuel Pellegrini as manager, Isco flourished in his natural attacking game, and soon got the recognition he deserved from the national scale. Pellegrini quit Malaga soon for Manchester City, and Isco was granted his dream move to Madrid in 2013. The 22-year old has played 48 league matches so far for the Galacticos, scoring 10 goals in the process many of which have been highlight reel material.
