Wenger Wants To Wrap Up Jovetic Deal Quickly

Fiorentina ace, Stevan Jovetic has been tipped for a big money move abroad this summer, with top European clubs vying for his signature. However, he has previously stated his desire to play in the Premier League with Arsenal being the favourites to land the 23-year-old.

According to DailyMail, the Gunners are preparing a £25 million move for the forward, who has netted 12 league goals in 26 appearances for Champions League chasing Fiorentina. The Montenegro international is Wenger’s number one transfer target and the Frenchman has already opened talks with the Italian club to swiftly conclude the deal.

The report states that Wenger is fearful of Chelsea’s summer transfer plans and hence wants to conclude the deal as quickly as possible. The Blues are set to name a new manager in the summer, who is bound to scour the European market for a talented striker.

Chelsea have world-class quality in the middle of the pitch with the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Mata pulling the strings. However, quality in the striking department leaves much to be desired. Torres’s old Liverpool form continues to elude him and January signing Demba Ba has been inconsistent so far.

They have been regularly linked with Ateltico Madrid hotshot Radamel Falcao, but they have also registered an interest in Jovetic. Wenger expects Chelsea to once again be the biggest movers in the transfer market, which is why he is keen to snap up Jovetic quickly. He said, “I’m afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer. We have to be prepared for them to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment.”

Arsenal have failed to replace Robin van Persie’s goals of last season, part of the reason they face an uphill task to qualify for the Champions League next season. They are in a three-way battle with fellow London rivals Spurs and Chelsea to finish in the Champions League spots.

Wenger believes Jovetic would be the ideal striker to fill RVP’s boots, but any deal could hinge on whether Arsenal qualify for the Champions League or not. We profiled Jovetic in early January and you can see him scoring an excellent goal at the end of the post.
