Wenger urges star to remain at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has insisted he wants forward Theo Walcott to remain at the club, and says he will give him more opportunities in the Premier League in the coming weeks.

Walcott’s place at Arsenal has been under scrutiny for years now, with him never really living up to the mighty potential he had piled on his shoulders at the age of 16.

Now 28 and arguably at the prime age for a footballer, Walcott is struggling to find his way into the Gunners’ team, and many predict his time could be up at the Emirates.

Arsenal legend and former striker Ian Wright certainly thinks so, and told The Debate earlier in the week that he believes it is time for the forward to move on.

However, despite playing just 48 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, Wenger says he does not want Walcott to exit the club – insisting more game time is on its way to him.

“I do not want Theo to move on,” Wenger said, after revealing he has no fresh injury concerns ahead of facing Swansea this weekend. “When you look at the number of minutes these guys have played it’s quite a big number.

“His time in the Premier League will come. I’ve gone into a rotation policy because we play Thursday, Sunday most of the time so at the moment he has got less minutes in the Premier League than other competitions.”
