Wenger Says He Is Not Bidding On Any Strikers

The Gunners currently sit at the very top of the English Premier League and look down on their nearest rivals Chelsea and Liverpool, who are 5 points adrift of the leaders. Arsenal are to be credited for their performances, and the manner of turnaround which Wenger and his boys have managed to pull off, especially after their opening day defeat to Aston Villa. Though one must also count luck as a massive factor in their rise to prominence.

Arsenal have only Olivier Giroud as their recognized first-team quality striker, and the Frenchman has played almost every minute of every game in the league. Though the London giants are currently soaring high, one injury to Giroud has the potential to clip their wings and send them down almost instantly. This problem up front has been well documented ever since the summer transfer window slammed shut and Arsenal only managed to sign a midfielder in the form of Mesut Ozil, when a striker was a more urgent need of the hour.

That is exactly why the media has ever since been busy linking every possible striker from Europe with Arsenal, and one of them who has been massively touted to arrive at the Emirates Stadium in January is Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard is below Karim Benzema in Real Madrid’s pecking order but he has managed to show his class whenever he has got the chance. Wenger is reportedly monitoring the 21-year old closely.

Another player on his short list was former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato. The Brazilian has struggled ever since moving back to his native country, and is already tipped to leave in an attempt to resurrect his faltering career. Arsenal’s London rivals Tottenham were previously keen to sign him, but were rejected by Pato who did not fancy a move to White Hart Lane.

Arsenal then came into the picture as a likely destination for him, though manager Arsene Wenger has played down these rumours by stating that he’s not targeting either of them, as reported by Metro.

When asked about Morata, he said, “There is no truth in that. That is all I can say. I have not been in touch with them.”

He was equally blunt while commenting about the Pato link-up. “No. There is no interest,” he said.
