Arsene Wenger is expected to use the January transfer window to sign a new defensive enforcer who can effectively shield the back four. The Gunners are still having problems defensively and they need to sign a defensive midfielder, along with a new centre-back in January.

Wenger was previously interested in Khedira but no move materialised for the 27-year-old in the summer. The German’s contract expires at the end of the season but fresh reports suggest that he will commit his future to Los Blancos.

The Arsenal boss is thus expected to target Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, according to the Express. Bender has impressed for Leverkusen this season, with the club sitting pretty in fifth position in the Bundesliga.
