Wenger remains stubborn on Arsenal duo

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will be at the club beyond the January transfer window, unless ‘something unbelievable’ happens.

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and look unlikely to sign new deals.

Mesut Ozil has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, while Alexis Sanchez is a top target of Manchester City’s.

However, when Wenger was asked about the duo and whether or not his gut feeling is that they would stay at the club, he replid: “Yes, of course.

“As long as they are here, they give their best for the club.”

“In my head, they stay until the end of the season. Unless something unbelievable happens I don’t see that changing.”

Asked if they will remain beyond the end of the 2017-18 campaign, he added: “I am not the only one to decide that. They have to decide that as well.”

It is not the first time Wenger has insisted upon playing down speculation about the pair leaving, and it seems fairly likely that they will do so for the remainder of the season.
