The summer of promise for Arsenal fans has drastically gone south as they have been virtually non-existent in the transfer window. After being linked to the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez, they now only have young Frenchman Yaya Sanogo to show for their efforts.

While the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have gone about dominating the window with making a host of big money signings, Arsenal have been unsuccessful in luring these big names thus far, despite possessing a massive amount of cash in the bank.

The season started without any major incoming player, and they were exposed straight away after a humbling 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa, which threatened to blow the situation out of proportion. The fans turned on Wenger and the club’s board to get straight to business, start putting in the hours and bring top quality players to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window slams shut next week.

Wenger has reportedly been on the phone round the clock, frantically trying to make the deals happen. However, Metro report that the Frenchman spoke to the media and while admitted that he is looking to bring new faces in, he will refrain from giving in and making panic buys, the way he did in the summer of 2011.

That forgetful summer saw Wenger make an astounding 5 signings in 48 hours before the window slammed shut. This was following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, and Wenger was left with no choice but to go into overdrive and make a flurry of signings to soothe the worsening situation at the club.

Though this time, he is not keen to let that situation repeat itself as he said, “We are a bit short numbers-wise for the whole season, to go for all the competitions,”

“We have at the moment injured players, like (Alex Oxlade) Chamberlain, like (Mikel) Arteta. But we have as well not to panic and to make the right decision. Under pressure, that’s never easy. But we will do it.”
