Wenger Reassures Fans Of Signings

Arsene Wenger has assured the Arsenal supporters to bring new faces to the side before the end of the transfer window; with the season about to begin, the French manager has not managed to sign any senior players to add concrete quality to the squad.

Arsenal have been fortunate enough to have not lost any of their important players, but the lack of transfer activity so far has ringed the alarm bells once again among the faithful supporters. Other clubs are quietly going about their business, while any potential move by Arsenal is hyped up by the media, making it difficult for them to conduct silent discussions without any paper rumors. Wenger has already been forced to sell Gervinho to Italian giants AS Roma, and with Nicklas Bendtner also looking for a move out of the club soon, Wenger will be in a desperate situation come mid-season when the matches become more frequent, and first team players get tired of the constant playing.

Andrei Arshavin, who struggled in the past couple of years at the club, has also left the club for greener pastures, leaving Wenger with bare bones. This is where the concept of squad depth comes into use, and given the injury crisis suffered players like Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal need to buy more players in different positions to not just keep up with their rivals, but also to be able to field a good enough squad to challenge top honors.

Wenger has been trying to lure strikers like Wayne Rooney to make the switch to London, but has been beaten by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, who look in a better position to sign the player come the end of the window. The last few weeks of the window will be hectic for Wenger, as all other managers, with the first few weekends of the Barclays Premier League kicking off this Saturday. Another player that has been on the radar is Luis Suarez, but with news of the striker staying at Liverpool this week, Wenger is working on more signings.

According to Metro, speaking before the weekend, Wenger said, “We are active,”

“We are in a situation like Manchester United, like Chelsea, where everybody expects signings and at the moment not a lot has happened.”

“There are 18 days to go [until the deadline], so that is a long time in the transfer market and we will be active.”

Well today has at least revealed some activity from Wenger as Sky Sports News are reporting that Arsenal have made a bid for Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye reportedly for £10million but of course it has been rejected.
