Wenger Looking To Portugual For Striker

According to Metro, Arsenal may have finally found a temporary solution for their problems. Wenger has been trying even since the summer to sign a second striker to help Giroud. After failing to reach an agreement with several targets, the Frenchman seems to have directed his attention to one of the most promising players the Portuguese championship has to offer. Benfica’s Rodrigo Moreno Machado who is apparently available made the top of the Gunners’ transfer wish-list.

The 22 year old Brazilian born Spanish U23 international who started his senior career evolving for Real Madrid C, is definitely a solution for Wenger who is keen on loaning him until the end of the season. Benfica also look interested in Arsenal’s possible offer mostly because more money could come their way if the player does well in the Premier League. This would not be the first time playing in the UK. Rodrigo also performed for the Bolton Wanderers back in 2011. Despite scoring just one goal, he has some experience in English football.

Arsenal will have to fight off Zenit who have reportedly already offered Benfica £25million. The Portuguese club, who desperately need the money in order to put their own financial house in order over the next season would have agreed with the Russians if not for Rodrigo’s doubts who might be interested in signing with the Gunners. Hopefully he will agree to come on loan for the next few months and will also help Wenger claim his first trophy in almost a decade.
