Wenger Looking To Make Long-Term Investments

Arsenal continue adding players to their winter shopping list. With the transfer period just around the corner, the Gunners are looking to spend some of the money destined for Europe’s most talented. According to Wenger, Ozil was just the first of a series of star footballers targeted by the Frenchman. The North London team missed out on a lot of options during the summer but look determined to invest not only in their present but also in their future. According to Metro, Schalke’s Julian Draxler just became an important name on Arsenal’s list. The young attacking midfielder is not seen as a necessity considering how well the Gunners have it as far as their middle section goes. Even so, the 20 year old is definitely a rising star who can become one of the best footballers in the world in a couple of years. He has shown great potential during the past year and has even made 10 appearances for his national team.

Draxler has been with Schalke since 2001. He spent his youth career with the German side after which he made his senior debut in 2011. Since then, he has managed 88 appearances for The Royal Blues in which he scored 14 goals.

Arsenal have to move fast if they want to get his signature. Apparently his starting price is £25million which is a lot for such a young player. Several Premier League teams have been following Draxler who is expected to become even more expensive by the end of the summer of 2014 considering the fact that he will probably get called upon to represent Germany in the World Cup competition.

The Gunners already have four of Draxler’s compatriots playing at the club, three of which are considered indispensable by Wenger. The fourth is Serge Gnabry who is just 18 and has a lot to prove. If Schalke’s midfielder decides to move it is more than likely he will come to the Premier League. It seems the most suitable competition for a player of his skills and physique. Arsenal are favorites ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City mostly because Ozil, Podolski, Mertesacker and Gnabry would create a familiar environment for Draxler to benefit from.
