Wenger Lays The Foundation For Summer Spending Spree With Key Acquisition

According to the Express, the Gunners have head-hunted Harry Redknapp’s chief scout Ian Broomfield, who worked with him at Portsmouth, Tottenham and finally QPR. After serving his notice period at Loftus Road, Broomfield is set to embark on his new role tomorrow.

He was the architect who brought the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris to Spurs. Wenger will no doubt want him to get similar talent at the north London club, who have a transfer warchest of £80 million to bolster their squad this summer.

Spurs were reportedly interested in re-signing Broomfield after their horrendous transfer window in which they sold Bale for a hefty sum but spent all their money on flops like £30 million forward Erik Lamela.

However, Wenger was swift in recruiting Broomfield, who revealed he could not turn down the chance to spot talent for the Frenchman.

He said, “The opportunity to work for Arsene Wenger at one of Europe’s top clubs, like Arsenal, was too good to turn down. I appreciated my time at QPR with Harry, but this is an exciting challenge which I’m looking forward to.”
