Wenger Lays Out Points Total Arsenal Need To Clinch Champions League Football

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes the Gunners may only need 59 points to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Speaking ahead of today’s game against Everton, the 70-year-old said he thinks 23 to 25 points from their last 12 games could well be enough to finish in the top four:

“They’ve all got a chance because it looks like the top three are away from the rest of the league and the rest of the league, teams have moved up and some of the teams in the top six have dropped their level. We have 26 games, after tomorrow’s game we have 33 points to go for, if you make 22-25 points, you have a chance.”

Arsenal have 34 points going into this evening’s match against the Toffees, and while it is still a difficult task, the European ban that UEFA have imposed on Manchester City could help their cause.

If the decision remains in place after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, it would mean that fifth place would be enough for the Gunners to qualify for the Champions League.

After Spurs lost 2-1 to Chelsea yesterday, Mikel Arteta’s side can go within three points with a victory over Everton, and if the gap does close up, Wenger’s points prediction may not be a bad shout.
