Wenger Keeps His Feet On The Ground

With Arsenal managing such an amazing start to the season, title talks have already started appearing. The Gunners haven’t won a trophy since 2005 and won their last Premier League during the 2003-2004 season. Back then Henry ruled the charts with 30 goals scored and Wenger was the first coach to win his second “League Managers’ Association Manager of the Year” trophy.

Arsenal have gone 8 years and 4 months without having to rearrange their trophy case. The pressure has really built up. Wenger has had trouble with the fans and had his doubts about staying with the Emirates team. His managerial style was pretty tough to handle especially by Gooners who started saying the Frenchman is more interested in pleasing the club owners rather than helping Arsenal win important competitions. That changed over the summer when the club announced their biggest transfer budget of all time.

With the Emirates Stadium being paid off and with consistent income that was the result of a well thought out transfers like the ones of Fabregas, Song, Robin van Persie, Arshavin and Denilson, the Gunners afforded their most expensive acquisition of all time. Ozil was brought in for £42.4m, making him the 5th most expensive footballer transferred during the 2013 summer transfer period.

According to Metro, Wenger, even though thinks his team has enough quality to end Arsenal’s trophy-less streak, said it is too early to think about the Premier League title. The Frenchman who is now in his 17th year with the Gunners explained that champions are born after winning battles and that the road that leads to his team succeeding in any competition is more than complicated. Hopefully Arsenal will continue their great form and will also continue investing in some important players. After missing out on Higuain’s signature who chose Napoli, the Gunners have to find a different target for the winter transfer period. Even though Giroud has shown great form he is still a not as efficient as a striker should be in front of goal. With that in mind Wenger will surely target someone that can help as much as Ozil does.
