With the match against Napoli just around the corner, Wenger spoke about Arsenal’s attempt to sign Gonzalo Higuain who is now one of the Italian side’s best players. The Frenchman admitted that the Argentinian striker was one of his primary targets but also mentioned that failing to bring him to Emirates was not as big of a deal as rumored. The team is working perfectly, and even though it is obvious they could use more efficient scorers, things are going well for the Gunners.
According to ESPN, Wenger has no regrets even though he could have used a player of Higuain’s talent. Napoli was an unexpected destination but their timing was perfect. The Frenchman also said he was happy with the fact that only Ozil made it to Emirates and that you cannot always get what you want. In his opinion, the fact that Arsenal managed to sign the German midfielder is just as great as the fact that Napoli signed Higuain.
Wenger also spoke about the Champions League match against the Italian side who according to Arsenal’s manager is a team who is which is full of talent and which is very dangerous in front of goal.
The fact that Benitez is now managing Napoli is also something to think about. The Spaniard is well acquainted with English football and has managed to put together a highly competitive team since he signed with the Italians. Wenger sees Chelsea’s former manager as a highly confident individual that has reached a certain maturity after coaching teams in some of the most powerful championships in Europe.
Add to that the fact that Napoli is now showing great form and that they play one of the most efficient strategies in the Champions League and you get a dangerous adversary that could cause trouble no matter what their opponents are. They proved that after defeating Dortmund who played last years’ final.
Even so, Wenger is set on winning the match against the Italian side. If the Gunners manage to score a victory against Napoli their chances of going through the next stage of the Champions League will grow considerably.
